March 17th 2017, Laurent Estoppey was invited by Gary Heidt, as part of Lovesphere Festival 22, to perform a saxophone solo composed of seven pieces in Greensboro’s WUAG radio studio. While the broadcast was played live in a public venue, a dozen musicians reacted to Estoppey’s music.
Estoppey then sent recordings of the seven pieces he performed to friends and collaborators in Europe and the USA, inviting them to play and record a dialogue.
Fifteen musicians responded, recording one or several pieces.
All of these iterations have been juxtaposed, mixed creating a virtual group. Each musician played from the original broadcast, unaware of the others. This process generates unique unexpected encounters.
